12.8 Operations Manual Part D

Operations Manual Part D (or the ATO equivalent training manual) presents the policies, procedures and programmes employed by an operator for the training and checking of flight crew and cabin crew.

12.8.1 Use of approved training material

Training shall be accomplished using approved training facilities, devices, equipment and course materials, whether owned or subcontracted. Training personnel must not use any training materials or aids unless they are approved and controlled by the company.

The organisation's training document library is one of the main resources for the instructor. The operations training area of that library brings the instructor to the home page for Training and Standards (or the local equivalent name). That page is the controlled entry point for training material accessible to flight crew. Links to simulator schedules, where published, are also available there.

As an instructor, access to the secure training area is granted from that home page. This area provides access to the Fleet Training Manual containing detailed syllabi for each fleet. Templates, forms and all other information related to training can also be found there.

12.8.2 Training Memos

A Training Memo may be issued whenever it is necessary for a Training Manager to communicate information or instructions to training personnel and / or management concerning administrative issues or training requirements, and which would not otherwise require the issue of a Temporary Revision to OM Part D or a Training Bulletin.

Training Memos may be issued by any Training Manager, but require specific approval prior to distribution by either the postholder / head of training, or the head of flight training (in the case of memos dealing solely with matters concerning pilot training).

Training Memos shall be accessible to all training personnel, and shall be located in the secure training document library for this purpose.

12.8.3 Course Footprint Manual

The Course Footprint Manual constitutes Section II of Operations Manual Part D (or the equivalent section of the approved training programme). It includes a complete specification of all training programs and course syllabi approved by the national authority (State of approval) and utilized for the training of pilots and cabin crew.
